Timbavati is one of South Africa’s most iconic safari regions, celebrated for its diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife, and incredible opportunities for sightings. Sharing unfenced borders with Kruger National Park, the reserve offers the thrill of tracking animals in their natural environment, with the chance to spot everything from big cats to elephants, wild dogs, and over 360 bird species.

Your home here is Shindzela Tented Camp — an intimate, unfussy, and authentic safari camp where comfort meets wilderness. What began in 2009 as a humble walking trails camp has grown into a welcoming retreat, with classic safari-style tents overlooking a waterhole that regularly draws elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife. With no fences between camp and nature, Shindzela gives you a front-row seat to the wild — while still offering all the creature comforts you’ll want after a day of adventure.

The Rooms

The safari-style tents are situated under thatch (grass-roof structures) and can be made up in either twin or double-bedded accommodation. Enjoy your morning coffee on your wooden deck or freshen up in your semi-open en-suite bathroom (shower, WC and handbasin). The camp can accommodate a maximum of 16 guests in total in 8 safari tents where you will be treated to our warm South African hospitality in a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy and soak up the true African wilderness.
